The Edible Fruit Garden

We will be beginning the journey by preparing an area of land on the University campus, and then planting a collection of fruit trees and bushes.

The process will involve digging a hole, planting the tree and hammering in a wooden steak to support the tree as it grows.

All tools and equipment will be provided.

There will be a variety of trees to be planted including:

• Jostaberry X 2
• Gojiberry X 2
• Raspberry x 4
• Tayberry X 2
• Blackcurrant X 2

Time: 11AM-1PM

Location: Meet Behind the left side of the Edith Key Building and plant in the orchard garden area.

By September time the trees will be bearing fruit and berries, which will be ready for harvesting.

We are going to harvest the ripe fruit and save some for the cooking session later in the year, but will certainly be sampling some of the produce too!

Location: Meet at the orchard behind the left hand side of the Edith Key Building (behind the building).

This is the concluding event of our 'Plant a Plate' series where we have planted a selection of fruits, nurtured and harvested them, and will now be cooking with the produce from the fruit trees and bushes which have been growing on campus over the year.

The University Head Chef will be presenting a live cooking demonstration on how to make a delicious 'Humble Crumble' using the fruit harvested from the University orchard and fruit bush planters, as well as giving top cooking tips!

Attendees will be given the opportunity to try a sample of the crumble and receive a recipe pack containing all of the dry ingredients to make the dish at home.

No need to book a place, just turn up in good time as tasty samples and recipe kits will be on a first come, first served basis!
