Why Journalism

Our Media and Journalism department offers a dynamic and progressive approach to emerging digital communication technologies and its impact on how we create and engage with media content. We’ll support you to explore this fast-paced world, equip you to enter it as a rising media star and help you to develop the skills and knowledge you’ll need to reach the audiences of the future with engaging, human stories through broadcast, online and social channels.  

Not only will you master researching, reporting, interviewing and writing – you’ll also broaden your intellectual horizons and begin to see the bigger picture, with high level thinking and analytical approaches.

Learn from leaders in the field


Meet Dr Richard Jones – Subject Area Leader for Media, Journalism and Film. Prior to joining the University he worked online, in radio, TV and print journalism. He was a journalist, producer and broadcaster for Sky News, BBC Radio 5 Live and Xfm among many others.

Inspiring Journalism Graduates

As part of her Broadcast Journalism course, Amber completed work placements at both The BBC and ITV. Upon graduating in 2019, Amber secured a full-time position at The BBC as a producer/researcher and is now a full-time journalist.

The proudest moment of my degree is my win at the BJTC Awards for Best Original Story. I am grateful for my teachers and university friends for supporting me, I would not have been able to achieve this without them.
