Your teaching training interview: What to expect

If you apply for any of the following courses, you will be invited for an interview:

How will the interview take place?

Interviews will take place in person on the University of Huddersfield campus. Full details, including a map of your interview location, will be provided in your invitation email.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for you to demonstrate good personal skills and knowledge appropriate to the course.

We might refer to your personal statement and expect you to show your passion for teaching. We want to get to know you and consider whether you’re right for the course. Your interview is also a great opportunity for you to think about whether the course is right for you.

What happens during the interview?

Primary and Secondary PGCE Lifelong Learning PGCE
A five-minute micro-teach (information about your topic will be sent out in the invitation email) A five-minute presentation on the importance of your subject within the Lifelong Learning Sector (delivered to the interviewer and a small group of other applicants)
A group discussion-based task A short written task
A short written task One-to-one interview with a course tutor
One-to-one interview with a course tutor An introductory presentation about the course, delivered by a member of the teaching team

Wear something that makes you feel confident and professional. We understand that "professional" looks different for everyone – comfort matters too!

If you accept your offer, we’ll send you further information about what you’ll need to complete before you start the course, including completing your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which is required for working with children.
