Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act came into force on 1 January 2005. The Act gave the public the statutory right (subject to appropriate limitations) to find out if a public authority held specified information and, if so, to be provided with access to it. The University of Huddersfield is fully committed to complying with the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.
Anyone has the right to ask for information held by the University from anywhere in the world. Requests must be made in writing and will be responded to within 20 working days of receipt.
The University’s Freedom of Information Officer co-ordinates the University’s responses to requests for information and is responsible for the University’s Publication Scheme where certain information is proactively published.
The Freedom of Information Act relates to general information about the University. Some information relating to the environment may come under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and information about individuals (staff, students etc) is dealt with separately under the terms of the General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018.
