Our students and staff have put together a collection of top tips to help you through Clearing:

1. Prepare in advance

Even if you’re feeling confident, do some contingency planning, Research and familiarise yourself with the Clearing process before results day. Understand how it works, what to expect, and the key dates involved. Make a list of possible alternative courses and universities. This will be easy to check against the Clearing listings when they are published.

2. Check UCAS Hub

If you become eligible to use Clearing, an 'Add a Clearing choice' button will become available to you UCAS. If you’re unsure, check directly with your firm and insurance choices as soon as possible.

3. Check the official Clearing listings

You’ll find these on the UCAS website, the Telegraph website or the websites of individual universities.

4. Consider alternative courses

Maximise your choices by trying to be flexible. Explore alternative courses related to your field of interest or consider related subjects that you may find appealing. Look for courses that align with your career goals and have available spaces through Clearing. For example, consider a joint course with another subject instead of a single subject course.

5. Start ringing possible universities straight away

Time is of the essence on results day, and places on popular courses can be filled very quickly!

6. Always make the phone call yourself

Universities are unable to offer places unless they are actually speaking to the student.

7.  Be prepared

Have your important documents readily available, including your UCAS personal ID number, exam results, personal statement, and any other relevant paperwork. This will make the clearing process smoother and less stressful.

8. Prepare for interviews

Some universities/courses may require an interview as part of the clearing process. Be prepared by researching the course, reviewing your personal statement, and practicing common interview questions. We have some additional information about inerviews that will help you prepare depending on your chosen subject.

Remember, Clearing is a chance to find a university place that suits you, so approach the process with a positive mindset and embrace the possibilities it offers. Good luck!
