Gold for Huddersfield

The University of Huddersfield has been awarded an outstanding Gold rating, the highest accolade attainable, in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2023). The University has been awarded gold in its overall rating, as well as gold in the student experience and in the student outcomes categories. 

These ratings reflect the University’s unwavering commitment to providing an exceptional student experience and fostering excellent student outcomes.

These ratings were awarded in 2023, for four years.

Huddersfield was the only university in Yorkshire and the Humber and the North West to achieve Gold ratings across all three aspects

Notably we were the only university in Yorkshire and the Humber and the North West to achieve Gold ratings across all three aspects of the TEF among those announced in September 2023. In fact only 13 other Universities, out of the 96 announced in September 2023, were Gold across all three ratings!

What is TEF?

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a national Government exercise to establish the quality of Higher Education, via the Independent Regulator in England, the Office for Students (OfS). The ratings are therefore an established mark of teaching quality as well as recognising the student experience and opportunities available to our students to develop the skills and knowledge valued by employers.

How have we achieved our TEF Gold rating?

The TEF assesses undergraduate courses, and awards are decided based on metrics, a University written submission and student contributions submitted via Student Unions. This information is evaluated by an independent panel of experts, who were particularly impressed by our: 

  • Academic experience and assessment practices.
  • Outstanding approach to supporting our students to achieve their goals.
  • Outstanding approach to achieving positive outcomes for our students.

The academic experience and assessment practices at Huddersfield were rated as Gold. This includes ensuring that our students are taught by stand-out lecturers, meaning they’ll learn from some of the best, helping them to be the best.
