Student Profiles - Kenya
“I studied many IT related diplomas in Kenya before deciding to come to study at the University of Huddersfield.
“With my previous background in education I was eligible for direct entry to the final year of my course.
“I chose to study at Huddersfield as I had heard good reports from family members that had studied there previously. When she came to visit she found the staff and students very friendly. The biggest difference that I noticed was the technology; the systems are so different to what I have experienced before. The technology is so advanced and we are always putting theory into practice.
“I chose to study in England rather than in my home country as I felt it would give me greater opportunities when I decide to return home. I am looking to get a job in the financial sector; this would such a great achievement. I would never have had this opportunity if I had not come to the University of Huddersfield to study."
“I initially studied a PGCE course at the University of Huddersfield and decided to return because of the excellent treatment I got from my tutors. They really supported me throughout my studies and I appreciated their approach.
“The tutors are well informed, very supportive, and friendly and always make themselves available for tutorials. I like the design of the campus, everything is easy to reach and in one place. There is a 24-hour computing lab and a well resourced library with help desks and very skilled staff. This all makes work easier for students when searching information for research and academic writings.
“People at the University and the entire surrounding are very friendly and inclusive; it does not matter which nationality you are there is never any discrimination. Huddersfield is a very quiet town and accommodation is manageable. The cost of living is lower than other places in the UK.”
“I chose this because it’s a fascinating course, it’s very challenging and interesting at the same time."....
"My ambition was to do a course that is unique and out of the ordinary, and to experience learning in a different environment. I also wanted to experience the cultural diversity that the UK has, with all the different nationalities that live, study and work here. It would also give me a competitive advantage when I go back home to apply for a job.
"I chose the University of Huddersfield because it’s one of the few universities that offer the course. I liked the structure that Huddersfield has; it’s been made in such a way that it’s marketable in the job sector. The University is also close to where I would be living.
“I chose this because it’s a fascinating course, it’s very challenging and interesting at the same time. It is also out of the ordinary, and it’s a course which focuses in an industry that is growing rapidly and is successful.
“Huddersfield is a small but beautiful town, and the shops are many and affordable. The University campus is big, with many lecture theatres; the University facilities are modern, like the library and classrooms, sports hall for games and also the Students’ Union for students to have some fun. My tutors are very professional and always willing to help in whatever area you are struggling with.
“I want to graduate and possibly get to work with different airlines and logistics companies in different parts of the world. I would also like to eventually be able to start up my own company back home, when I have gained enough experience.”
